Sogetsu 100th Anniversary
Sogetsu Headquarters in Japan is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Sogetsu in April 2027. Branches all over the world are having their own celebrations to share in the festivities. Sogetsu Dallas Branch's event took place on March 20th and 21st, 2026. Suisho Higuchi and Tokue Yamaguchi, masters from Headquarters, were invited to participate, and they were outstanding.
On the exhibition day, they each arranged 3 lovely pieces, then a large, beautiful center stage arrangement. Entertainment after the exhibition featured Marilyn Calley, 4th grade level, doing two Hula numbers, Nancy Griggs, Somu, and Rod Machac dancing a waltz and two young women doing traditional Indian dances..
The second day's workshops were interesting. In the first, we each made an arrangement using large leaves, then added Craft Band lines that were brought from Japan. The results were unique and creative. In the second workshop, we learned to shred bamboo and cut bamboo poles at a slant, securing them with nails or wire. They were then arranged with great originality!
It's always exciting to learn from our guests from Japan.
“The Sogetsu 100 anniversary celebration on March 20 and 21, 2026 was a great success with more than 50 attendees for each workshop and 75 attendees for the demonstrations including 15 out of town guests.
I am very thankful to all the committees and the volunteers who have worked delightfully as a team. Your dedication to perform your assignments is very much appreciated.
Our guest instructors, Suisho Higuchi and Tokue Yamaguchi presented wonderful demonstrations and conducted challenging but inspiring subjects for the workshops. They worked very hard to ensure a satisfactory result, also they were very pleased to see the growth of Sogetsu in Dallas.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ”
